How Miley Cyrus Became So Famous So Quickly!
Posted on March 1st, 2009 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
Teen star Miley Cyrus is the daughter of Leticia and Billy Ray Cyrus the country musician. She was born on November 23 1992 with the name Destiny Cyrus, but got the nickname Miley because she was always smiling!
Miley began acting from an early age, starring in her dad’s show “Doc” from the age of nine and in “Big Fish” starring Ewan McGregor and directed by legendary director Tim Burton.
At age 12, Miley auditioned for two roles on the Disney company’s new teen sitcom “Hannah Montana” – both for the lead role and also as the lead character’s best friend. However, Disney casting directors thought she was “too young and too small” for the role and wouldn’t be able to handle the stress of filming such a large show.
Miley had her heart set on appearing in the show and begged the Disney executives for another shot. In the end, the executives decided to ignore their previous concerns and cast Miley in the lead role. They even cast Miley’s real dad Billy Ray as her on-screen dad!
In the show, Miley stars as Miley Stewart, who has a secret life as international pop princess Hannah Montana. Only her family and two best friends know about Miley’s secret double life!
The Hannah Montana show on the Disney Channel has allowed Miley to rise from a Hollywood nobody to an international celebrity in only three years! Since starring in the show, Miley has starred in the TV movie “The Emporer’s New School” and her first major role was as the voice of Penny in Disney’s huge new animation “Bolt.” She also had a cameo appearance in “High School Musical 2.”
Miley Cyrus also starred in the recent Hannah Montana concert-movie “The Best Of Both Worlds” and continues to perform as Hannah Montana at live events all around the world.
For the future, Miley has lots of acting projects under development. Some include a movie-length Hannah Montana film (based on the show’s characters not the music) and a sequel to the 70s movie “Adventures in Babysitting” which is due out in 2010 starring another teen star Raven-Symone!
Now that she has starred in Hannah Montana for a few years Miley is keen to shake off her teen starlet image. Only the future will tell whether she’ll be able to focus on more serious acting and music projects!

Collectible Barbie Dolls – Guide for Doll Collectors
Posted on February 21st, 2009 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
Barbie has been one of the most popular dolls and for almost fifty years has been a part of every girls wish list for Christmas or other special occasions. She has also been one of the best seller toys online and one of the hottest collectible toys.
According to Mattel, manufacturer of Barbie, there are already more than 100,000 Barbie collectors around the world. Roughly ninety percent are women in their early 40s, buying around twenty Barbie dolls and spending $1000 or more every year.
At auction, vintage Barbie dolls from earliest production are the most successful. In 1959, original Barbie was sold for $3.00. In 2004, Barbie in mint box from 1959 was sold for around $3552. And in 2006, a Midnight Red Barbie doll from 1965 was sold for $17,000, which actually set a world record.
Looking back, Mattel has sold a lot of Barbie dolls particularly to collectors. Barbie dolls sold included vintage reproductions, dolls based from characters in television series like Star Trek and The Munsters, and porcelain versions.
Barbie dolls in various ethnic identities were also sold and became great collectors items. Barbie dolls ranging through gold, pink, silver, and platinum were also sold due of course for the effort of Mattel in introducing the Color Tier system for its collectors edition.
Aside from Barbie, companions created by Mattel for her were also successfully sold to collectors. These include African American Christie, Steven (boyfriend of Christie), Midge, and Hispanic Teresa. Dolls created to become her siblings and cousins also appeared to be very appealing to collectors. These include Francie, Todd (twin brother of Tutti and Stacie), Stacie (twin sister of Todd), Tutti (twin sister of Todd), Jazzie, Krissy, Skipper, and Kelly.
This year, Mattel celebrates Barbie’s continued success for 50 years. Barbie was actually launched March of 1959.
As Barbie celebrates her 50th anniversary this year, collectors also celebrate as Mattel released new reproduction of 1959 Barbie doll, the original. Many collectors were filled with joy with Mattel’s decision about the 1959 Barbie doll. And in the coming years, they are expecting that Mattel will release new productions of some other well-loved Barbie dolls for them to joy.

Tips On Remodeling Your Kid’s Bedroom
Posted on January 29th, 2009 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
One thing that you need to know about your kid’s room is that it has to change according to the changes that your child undergoes. You can’t expect it to remain fit for a one year old when your child is already ten. Of course, this doesn’t have to be a problem all the time because the changes that you need to make can be dealt in small packets.
When you’re choosing bedsheets for your children, try sticking with plain sheets which are brightly colored instead of specialized and themed ones. The problem with those are, your child quickly outgrows them, while the plain ones can stick around much longer.
The bedroom furniture has to match colors with everything else. Paint their dresser according to the color of the wallpaper to make it fit in. Try to upgrade the other furniture as well like the changing table into an actual study table which they can use when they no longer need diapers but needs a place to hold their books. Put in chairs to sit in and shelves to put their toys in and the changes are complete.
Use bright colors to make the room as energetic and as exciting for your child. If you have a one-year old, try to make the room a little mature but not too mature. Bright colors like bright blues and greens often keep your child’s interest at its best. And make sure the bed is soft and cozy, too.
Your kid’s room is a vital part of his or her childhood. He or she will be spending a lot of time in this room and this will be a part of their memories forever. So remember to make it as full of love as you can and you’ll never go wrong.

The Nike SB Dunk Legacy And Where It Is Going
Posted on January 17th, 2009 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
It isn’t like men to ogle over shoes such as women commonly do, but when it comes to skateboarding the right shoe can make all the difference in competitive play. As such, skateboarders should invest in a shoe that not only works for them, but also looks great- and this usually leads them straight to the Nike SB Dunk brand of shoes.
The regular Nike Dunk was created with a general type of sport in mind: it was created to take a pelting and still keep up. While the general focus went to basketball, skateboarders found out that they too could use the Nike Dunk for a great skateboarding shoe that offered good traction and balance. Since the, Nike has reformed the design and even created a new brand to market to skaters.
Nike eventually caught on to the popularity of the Dunk and what it was being used for, and released the Nike SB Dunk. This shoe, especially designed for skaters, quickly became an instant hit that is still popular today. Usually sold over the Internet, this brand of Nike shoes is also found in most Nike footwear outlets, and some sports stores and catalogs around the nation.
Many of the Nike SB Dunks are considered to be collector’s items, since they are scarce and seldom seen in actual use. The price of Nike SB Dunks has risen as a result of high demand and less supply, although times are quickly changing with Nike pushing production lines as quickly as possible. Still yet, it isn’t surprising to see collector’s holding on tight to their Nike SB Dunks.
Getting the best price in anything warrants the need to shop around. This is also true with the Nike Dunk, which can be sold through both offline and online resources. Websites that offer wholesale prices typically offer the better prices, but also check catalogs and local retailers for any special discounts they may be having for the shoe. It’s usually a toss up, so take the time to research if pricing is an issue.
It would seem that the dynasty that Nike has created is going to continue far into the future, as skating doesn’t look like it’s going to take a dip any time soon. It’ll be interesting to see where Nike takes the brand of shoe that spawned a cult following of collectors and skaters alike. Whatever the case will be, expect the hype surrounding this shoe to keep up for years to come.
Final Thoughts
It doesn’t look like the Nike SB Dunk is going anywhere. Instead, it has firmly rooted its durability and great looks into the minds of skaters everywhere. Skaters who want to learn more information on the Nike SB Dunk should look around for the best deal, because they aren’t always the easiest shoe to find.

Baby Sitter Needed: Where To Find the Right One
Posted on January 12th, 2009 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
It may not be enough to simply put up a baby sitter needed ad on the paper. If you want to find the right sitter for the kids, it will take more than that. It can take a lot of time for you to find the right person to care for your kids. This is only right because you would want someone who will ensure the safety and well being of your kids. So where do you find the right sitter?
Where to Find One
There are many methods to find a good sitter. Your method of finding a sitter will depend on your own preferences. You can try any one of these ways to get a good baby sitter.
- The most well-known way is to simply ask. You can ask among your friends and close neighbors. They may be able to recommend a good sitter who they may have previously hired. You may also find a sitter in your very own neighborhood. This is a good option because you or someone close to you knows the sitter well enough to give you some personal assurance. Neighbor sitters may also be already familiar with your kids so rapport may already be present.
- There are also ads of sitters for all ages online. They may have their own personal pages or they may be listed in advertising and listing ads. These sites may either have sitter contact information or full resumes for you to browse over.
- Of course, you can also post your very own baby sitter needed ad. Forum, free ad sites or paid ad sites will let you advertise your needs. Depending on the site you are on, you can be as detailed as you can about work situations and payment to attract prospects.
- The best place to start is with a baby sitting agency. In recent years, numerous agencies have sprung up. Although you may have to pay a considerable amount, you can expect some great services from agencies. These may include background checks and screening.
- An alternative to agencies are referral sites. Instead of paying thousands of dollars to an agency, you can use a referral site instead. These sites match the specific needs of both sitters and families so both have a higher chance at satisfaction. Good referral sites will allow you to actively participate in the screening process. They will simply provide you access to resumes and critical background information.
What You Need to Remember
Of course, you can always try to look for a baby sitter yourself. You do have to remember though that you are basically on your own. You will not have the extra services provided by either an agency or referral site. If you do plan to pick your own sitter, be very thorough in finding out about the character and background of your sitter. Ask too about her child caring skills and if she has had classes in first aid and emergency response.
If you post a baby sitter needed ad, you’ll definitely get responses. That much is certain. The real challenge is finding the ideal sitter among the many possible options.

The Real Problem With Kids And Cash
Posted on December 30th, 2008 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
Are you tired of your kids nagging you for an expensive toy that they keep on seeing on television or with their playmates? Are they the kind of kids who think money grows on trees and that they don’t really have to value it? It might prove to be very useful if they would learn that this is not true.
As a parent, there are many ways for us to keep our kids from weighing heavily in our pockets. We could strip away their credit card access altogether and banish them to a friend-less, phone-less, Internet-less Amish existence. Although, there is an alternative that wouldn’t end up with your kids hating you forever, and here are just a few of them.
Earning money can teach your child to appreciate it more. They tend to value money greater if they actually worked hard for it. If you have younger kids, try to give them some household responsibilities and reward them for a job well done. If your children are a little bit older, you can try letting them hold a job or start a business on their own, perhaps from their hobbies in Tennessee craft shows.
Suggest that they should save some of their money. Tell them all about the benefits of opening up a bank account and how interest increases the money they have there. Or you can tell them to start a college fund right away, by saving a percentage of their earnings or allowance for, say, every week or month.
Let them participate when you’re handling the household budget. You can be a great example in showing responsibility when it comes to handling money and allowing them to see you at your budgeting best is probably a great way to lead by example. You can tell them all about the advantages of keeping a budget and how this greatly helps in keeping the household in order.
There are still other useful ideas out there which you can use in order to make money lessons more memorable for your kids. You have to make sure that these lessons are as fun as playtime otherwise, they probably won’t show any interest in it.

Tips for Gift Exchanges When it Comes to Toddler Christmas Gifts
Posted on December 24th, 2008 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
How to successfully navigate the perilous waters of a gift exchange can be a tricky task. At the holiday season we are beset with many different kinds of gift exchanges. There is the office gift exchange, the neighbor gift exchange, the gifts we exchange with our friends and the great white elephant gift exchange. While each of these exchanges has their own fun and pitfalls perhaps the most perilous is the family gift exchange.
Gift giving between siblings might be a fun tradition that is not too difficult – sure last year you received a novelty holiday sweater that has not seen the light of day since, but it is all in good fun. When it gets truly tricky is when the gift exchange flows down to the next generation to nieces and nephews.
Get it right
You love your nieces and nephews. You carry a photo of their pink pudgy faces and show off your precious babies at every chance, but shopping for a baby or toddler when you have none yourself is sometimes difficult.
Appropriate gifts
The last thing the mother of a 9-month old needs is more choking hazards to worry about, or a large toy which encourages climbing, or toys that make incessant noise without secession. Fortunately you don’t need to be Dr. Spock to know what kinds of toys babies or toddlers of any age are bound to love without causing their parents hardship.
Most toys are divided into age appropriate categories and labeled. All you need to do is read the label. If there is no age label then a little bit of common sense will come to your aide. If your niece is 18-months old she is likely to enjoy simple toys like dolls or trains. The complicated toys with delicate parts will break and frustrate. Think also of mom and dad. Noisy toys will find themselves hidden out of earshot.
Mom knows best
This maxim applies to all mothers, even the moms of your pint sized nieces and nephews. Before you go out and complete all your holiday shopping it is always a good idea to run your list past the toddler’s mom. Tommy (2-years old) might love a remote control car, or 17-month old Suzie might enjoy coloring books and bright markers.
Yet if these gifts will inspire those little free spirits to run into the busy roads or create great works of art on the walls, then maybe they should wait.
Running your gift selection past parents helps you avoid these pitfalls that you might not know about otherwise. You can also be sure your gifts are not being duplicated. You might be given an even better gift idea.
Spoiling your babies at Christmas time should be fun! Remembering a few simple rules before you shop will ensure your success.

Toddler Christmas Gift Ideas – Childrens Personalized Step Stool
Posted on December 23rd, 2008 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »
Puzzles from Santa – Getting the perfect gift for your toddler shouldn’t be a riddle and can be the best investment you ever made for many reasons.
Toddlers are a busy, imaginative group of individuals. Their minds and needs have progressed past the impulsive desire to chew every thing their fingers grasp into slimy shreds. They love colors and will not forget about an object simply because mommy has hidden it out of sight.
Toddlers are also natural problem solvers. Don’t believe me? Then why the need for a million dollar baby proofing industry, constant parental supervision and a great deal of improvising when the fancy toddler proof containers fail to keep your toddler out?
Work with it
This Christmas as you select holiday gifts for your toddler use these natural impulses to select gifts that stimulate these natural tendencies and capture the imagination. To that end puzzles are the perfect gift.
What kind?
The latest trend in holiday gifts or newborn baby gifts is the childrens personalized step stool. Choosing a childrens personalized step stool can be one of the more unique ways to add the enjoyment of having a puzzle along with their own name engraved in the stool. The stepstool not only promotes independence, it encourages learning to read with dexterity.
Of course your toddler will not enjoy a 1000 piece puzzle of Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces, but you are not too far off the mark. The best kind of puzzles for a toddler will take into account their fine motor skills and love of colors, learning and imagination. If you do choose a landscape type puzzle, choose one with a large pattern or picture. Too many intricate details will mean that this puzzle is dumped and abandoned for mom or dad to piece together again.
When selecting a puzzle for toddlers keep the following things in mind:
-Toddlers might not chew on everything, but will be tempted to take a nip or two every once in a while. Choose puzzles that can handle that kind of wear and tear without falling apart and creating a choking hazard. To this end wooden or foam puzzles work best.
-Nimble toddler fingers adept at defying the childproof cap still have trouble with fine motor skills. Puzzles with tiny pieces which lock together might confuse and frustrate them. Choose puzzles that have larger pieces and whose pieces fit into their own slot on the puzzle board.
-Some puzzles come with little knobs or handles attached to each piece. These are especially easy for even the youngest puzzle enthusiast to master.
-Bright colors and themes to match and stimulate your child’s interest are best.
Making it fun
One of the elements that make puzzles fun for your little one are the wide variety of character, themes and age appropriate educational pictures that appeal to children of that age. Puzzles featuring the alphabet or numbers help your child to learn as they play. Fun characters or puzzles with cars, princesses or bugs stimulate imagination and foster your child’s interests in and awareness of the world around them.
Perhaps the best part of a puzzle for Christmas is that this gift often creates moments of one on one play with you and your child. What parent or toddler doesn’t love more quality time spent in simple play?
