Immigration DNA Testing Is Important Too

Posted on January 31st, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by Patricia Denny

There are lots of reasons that you might need to get some form of paternity testing done. You might need to determine the biological relationship between a man and a child or you might need to determine how many family members can enter a county under Immigration testing procedures.

Global Requirements

Of course there are some similarities between the dna testing procedures that go with a variety of tests like paternity testing before birth and the ones used for immigration, but there are other differences between the different variations that are worth noting. For example, while paternity testing can be accomplished with samples from people that are usually but not always in the same general locale, the tests that many Embassies ask for are from relatives that can be miles or even a continent apart with immigration testing.

Overseas Samples

Very often the country that a family hopes to settle in will ask that they provide samples so that all the members that want to immigrate can prove they are of the same family. This often means that samples need to be collected in overseas locations and the best dna testing companies will have the facilities to do that. Its necessary to make sure that the firm that you want to use is of the highest caliber possible. Regardless of whether you need court ordered paternity testing or the samples collected so that family can be reunited in a new land, there are some factors that need to looked at so the consumer can be assured they are getting the best product possible.

Laboratories

As you might expect, one of the first things that youll need to have a good look at is the kind of laboratory that the place employs. Any one who wants to make sure that they get the very best that these laboratories have to offer should look at a few simple factors. How long theyve been in business is at the top of the list regardless of whether you need the latest prenatal paternity testing procedures or something to do with immigration. Its essential that you find out as well if the place that youre considering using has all the proper credentials.

Finally, its good to know that the paternity testing place that youre looking has a flexible background. That way, theyll be able to handle your immigration needs too.

Tips On Remodeling Your Kid’s Bedroom

Posted on January 29th, 2009 in Kids and Teens | No Comments »

by Alix Montoya

One thing that you need to know about your kid’s room is that it has to change according to the changes that your child undergoes. You can’t expect it to remain fit for a one year old when your child is already ten. Of course, this doesn’t have to be a problem all the time because the changes that you need to make can be dealt in small packets.

When you’re choosing bedsheets for your children, try sticking with plain sheets which are brightly colored instead of specialized and themed ones. The problem with those are, your child quickly outgrows them, while the plain ones can stick around much longer.

The bedroom furniture has to match colors with everything else. Paint their dresser according to the color of the wallpaper to make it fit in. Try to upgrade the other furniture as well like the changing table into an actual study table which they can use when they no longer need diapers but needs a place to hold their books. Put in chairs to sit in and shelves to put their toys in and the changes are complete.

Use bright colors to make the room as energetic and as exciting for your child. If you have a one-year old, try to make the room a little mature but not too mature. Bright colors like bright blues and greens often keep your child’s interest at its best. And make sure the bed is soft and cozy, too.

Your kid’s room is a vital part of his or her childhood. He or she will be spending a lot of time in this room and this will be a part of their memories forever. So remember to make it as full of love as you can and you’ll never go wrong.

Give Chocolate for a Romantic Valentine’s Day

Posted on January 27th, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by DrJeanaDavidNed57

Finding that perfect gift for your special someone on Valentine’s day can be a real chore and sometimes it even seems impossible. The perfect gift has to be special, lavish and just absolutely as perfect as your loved one. Don’t be a dud and pick another boring and disappointing gift. It may be predictable but chocolate is never disappointing and with the choices out there you can even find something not so predictable.

Chocolate with nuts, cherries, different chocolate even bugs you’ll be sure to find a gift she will adore. Chocolate has been known for centuries to be a lavish and indulgent gift. Plus who doesn’t like eating it?

In fact, one of your options is to create a chocolate rose “bouquet”. The bouquet is composed of decadent dark, white or milk chocolate in the formation of a beautiful, edible rose. You can make your bouquet even more special by selecting unique chocolate flavours such as pink peppermint and raspberry.

They even look like roses as they are wrapped in red foil and attached to a stem so they can be held like a bouquet. For extra fun they are tied with a pretty ribbon and put in a box made for real roses. Your special someone is up for a surprise when she opens the box and finds chocolate instead of the roses she expected.

Another possibility you can consider buying is a chocolate gift basket, which is always a good choice if you don’t quite know what chocolates she prefers. There are many types of chocolate you can put in your basket: truffles, petit fours, tortes, kisses, and bars. To change it up a bit, you can also add bridge mixes, chocolate-colored teddy bears, dessert wines, champagnes, real roses – anything you think she may desire.

You can choose a traditional box, or a wicker basket, decorative bowl, or even a picnic hamper, to hold the components of your chocolate gift baskets. A selection of exotic chocolate treats will be just the thing to make your sweetie happy, and she will also treasure the basket itself for years to come.

Maybe your sweetie appreciates the traditional, luxurious box of chocolates, in the shape of a heart, lined with velvet and filled with nut clusters, caramels, crmes and truffles. Sometimes women have special dietary restrictions or they simply do not want to pack on the pounds during the holidays, leaving you scratching your head and wondering what to do. Not to worry, there are sugar free and low-fat chocolates available! If you are looking for something more unique for your chocolate box, there are also chocolate covered pretzels, nuts and hard candies to choose from.

One of the oft overlooked choices, as sad as that is, is the gift of chocolate covered fruit. You sweetheart will swoon when she sees the lavish and decadent gift you have gotten her of chocolate covered strawberries and other fruits. Strawberries are the first that come to mind but don’t forget the more unusual ones such as apricots or cherries. Plum succulent fruit encased in sweet rich chocolate is mouth watering and undeniably romantic.

Queensboro Motorcycle Club Annual Motorcycle Rodeo

Posted on January 26th, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by LJ James

Queensboro Motorcycle Club has been around for over 98 years! That’s right I said over 98 years, That’s not only a long time for a Motorcycle Club, that’s a long time for anything!

OK Lets stop and think about this for a minute, The first (gas-engined) Motorcycle was invented in 1885. (Of course some consider the first Motorcycle invented to be the two-cylinder, steam-engine motorcycle powered by coal invented in 1867 by American, Sylvester Howard Roper) Harley Davidson who started in 1903 only has 7 years on Queensboro MC!

This MC has been around since the infancy of the Motorcycle culture. Now I have only known Queensboro MC for about 8 of those 97 years but I can tell you over 97 years this group of Bikers have made many friends in and outside of the Motorcycle world! Their annual Motorcycle Rodeo Held each year at a local Park shows not only how many friends they have made but also how 98 years can teach you how to throw a great party.Just one look at the parking lot at the Rodeo shows you the wide diversity of their Friends,With Motorcycles from Harley to Honda, Ninja to Norton and so many others in between. Now you don’t need a Motorcycle to be part of the FOQ (Friends of Queensboro)Crew and some of their many friends showed up in cars to enjoy the perfect Summer day!

The Event starts with sign up at Rolling Thunder in Hempstead and a Scenic ride over to the Rodeo. Once at the Rodeo there are of course plenty of great Motorcycle Events to enter,None of them more memorable then the Port-a-Potty pull ! If you need to ask what a Port-a-Potty pull is, Well all I can say is your just going to have to show up at next years Rodeo! The Event also has many great Vendors,Food and Beverages, a D.J., Children’s events, a Bike Show and many games you don’t need a Motorcycle to play, Such as the Hilarious game “Shoot the Biker Freak”. The Final event of the day is always the Tug of War !

Queensboro MC’s Motorcycle Rodeo has a permanent mark on my calendar of events to attend every year and a big gold star on it for 2010!!! Check out QueensboroMC.com for info on their many other great Annual events!!!

Cure Internal Hemorrhoids

Posted on January 24th, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by Heather-Jane Hunter

Internal Hemorrhoids are swollen or inflammed veins in the walls of the anal canal. They range in size from about the size of a small finger nail up to the size of a golf ball (in extreme cases).

Internal hemorrhoids often cause severe pain, especially during bowel movement and are commonly identifed by noticing blood on the stool or toilet paper. Internal hemorrhoids frequently cause itching which can range from a pleasant tickle to something totally unbearable.

Doctors still dont know for sure what causes internal hemorrhoids, but they have identified a few common factors which often lead to hemorrhoids, some of which are explained below.

Constipation:Those who are affected by constipation for long amounts of time are highly exposed to hemorrhoids. Straining excessively during bowel movement (as caused by constipation) often causes ruptures in blood vessels which lead to hemorrhoids.

Hard Stools: Hard stools which hurt to pass can lead to internal hemorrhoids due to increased shearing force on the internal anal canal. To avoid hard stools try to eat high fiber foods such as cereals and vegetables.

Pregnancy: Increased blood pressure and blood volume (in the varicose veins) while pregnant causes 20% of all pregnant women to suffer from hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids can also occur as a result of massive pressure on veins in the anal canal while giving birth.

Weight-lifting: Internal and external hemorrhoids are a regular occurance amongst many body builders due to lifting heavy wieghts which puts a lot of pressure on veins inside (and around) the anal canal. Lower body exercises such as squats place the most pressure on the veins from which hemorrhoids are formed.

Diarrhea: Long bouts of diarrhea agravate existing hemorrhoids and can even cause hemorrhoids. Explosive stools can damage veins inside the anal canal which leads to hemorrhoids. See your doctor if you suffer diarrhea for more than 48 hours.

A number of different techniques exist for treating internal hemorrhoids. Choosing the appropriate one for you may depend on things such as cost, recovery time, and the severity of your hemorrhoids.

It is generally accepted that due to the high costs associated with hemorrhoid surgery, as well as the long recovery times and pain involved, that this form of treatment is reserved for severe cases only. Furthermore ” hemorrhodis surgery places no guarantee that hemorrhoids will stay away for good ” there is always a chance that they could return again.

Creams and gels are interesting because some people have got results using them while others complain of nasty side effects such as burning and stinging. These side effects can become extremely painful and indeed complicate the hemorrhoids further (not to mention cause you a lot of additional pain and suffering). Most creams and gels target elimination of the pain and other symptoms that are common in hemorrhoid sufferers ” they dont target the underlying causes of hemorrhoids.

Natural remedies are fast becoming recognized as a leading method to cure hemorrhoids. Being natural, they work with your body which means no side effects are noticed, and the work to cure the root cause of hemorrhoids instead of simply focusing on the symptoms of hemorrhoids. One product in particular which is known as H-Miracle has been credited with curing many thousands of hemorrhoid sufferers.

Severe Hemorrhoids Explained

Posted on January 23rd, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by Heather-Jane Hunter

While hemorrhoids can become very painful, most of the time they are not a serious problem. Only once hemorrhoids become advanced do they become a severe condition. Hemorrhoids affect around 1 in 20 people and are caused when cushions inside the anal canal are exposed to excessive blood pressure. This pressure causes stretching of the cushions which finally results in a hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids can affect anyone of any age but are most prevalent in the 40 ” 65 age bracket.

Excessive pressure on the pelvic and rectal blood vessels is what causes hemorrhoids (as mentioned above). An accumulation of blood builds up in the veins causing them to swell and stretch. Near by tissues are also affected by this stretching. Diarrhea can aggravate hemorrhoids and constipation causes straining which is the most common cause of excessive pressure which leads to hemorrhoids.

Being overweight is also a common cause of hemorrhoids. Pregnant women are at high risk of hemorrhoids due to an increased blood flow and blood pressure while pregnant. Hemorrhoids can also occur due to the straining required when giving birth.

Different Types of Hemorrhoids

Two main types of hemorrhoids exist, internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids (both can occur simultaneously). The severity of the hemorrhoid will vary on a case by case basis depending on numerous factors. Internal and external hemorrhoids can both bleed. Hemorrhoids are usually divided into 4 degrees of severity. 1st degree hemorrhoids are the least serious while 4th degree hemorrhoids are the most severe.

Hemorrhoids that are classed as 1st degree are always inside the anal canal, they never protrude. 2nd degree hemorrhoids however can protrude, most likely during bowel movement, but they always return to the anal canal without assistance afterwards. 3rd degree hemorrhoids require manual insertion once they protrude. 4th degree hemorrhoids can no longer be inserted.

Severe Hemorrhoids Symptoms

Symptoms of severe hemorrhoids are itching, burnings and blood on the stool. These are the same symptoms that people face with less serious hemorrhoids, the only difference being that a lot more pain is normally associated with severe hemorrhoids.

Regardless of the severity of your hemorrhoids, there are still things you can do to quickly minimize pain and start treating the problem. H Miracle is one product that has been used successfully by thousands of people to cure hemorrhoids. No known side effects are associated with H Miracle because it is a 100% natural healing system. More in depth information can be found about H Miracle as well as numerous other topics related to hemorrhoids via the link below.

Sewing Kit Essentials

Posted on January 22nd, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by Donna Trumble

When we least expect it, crisis strikes. Here a rip. There a tear. Over yonder a button falls off or a zipper jams. What we need is an emergency sewing kit.

You will need something to keep your sewing supplies together. Your need some kind of container that you can keep close by at all times. Many people love those sewing boxes sold at sewing shops. Others prefer to use a fishing tackle box. It really does not matter much. Even an old shoe box in good condition will work. Having drawers or compartments in the box can be helpful in organizing your supplies. If you use your kit as part of your regular sewing, make sure to put your supplies back in your kit for unexpected emergencies.

Since this is your essential sewing kit, you will want to make a list of essential sewing supplies to keep in your kit.

Two scissors are desirable. First, you need a pair of sharp high quality eight inch bent handle sewing shears. Second, you will need a pair of trim scissors also known as embroidery scissors. Use sewing scissors only for cutting fabric and thread. Never ever cut paper or other things with your sewing scissors. Keep your sewing scissors in peak condition. It is also helpful to keep a pair of paper cutting scissors handy. Just avoid getting them confused.

You will need a dependable seam ripper. There are many different sizes and designs of seam rippers, but the important thing is to keep it sharp. The seam ripper should be made with a longer knife like finger and curved cutting surface and a beaded tip. The seam ripper is essential for opening seams and preparing the materials for sewing.

The final cutter for your kit is a pair of pinking shears. These are used to prevent fabric edges from fraying. These shears cut in a zig zag fashion.

Needles are vital. You will need both sewing machine needles of various types and hand sewing needles. Using the right needle for the job insures the best and easiest job possible. Specific fabrics require specific needles.

Glass head sewing pins are used to hold fabrics together while you lay them our or sew. Keep a set of inch and a half pins handy, although you may want a couple of different sized sets as well.

A traditional pin cushion or a magnetic pin cushion is needed to help keep pins and needles organized.

While you do not need to keep all of your sewing threads in your crisis sewing kit, you do need some basic emergency threads. It is recommended that you keep one spool of white and one spool of black long fiber 50 weight polyester thread in your kit. In an emergency, you can quickly grab your kit and feel confident that either the white or black will do the job. This thread will handle almost any circumstance. For general sewing, however, it is good to use a wide variety of colors, weights, and types of thread depending on your project.

You must keep a good cloth measuring tape in your kit.

A six inch metallic ruler with a pointer slide in the middle is used for setting hems and seam allowances. It is called a hem gauge, seam gauge, or stitch gauge, and is a basic tool for your kit.

To mark measurements and pattern elements on fabric, you will need a fabric marking pen or chalk pencil. You can choose from air soluble, erasable, or water soluble types.

There are many sewing notions and tools that make sewing easier and more successful. While we have explored those items needed for an crisis sewing kit, you have many options of other items that you can add to your kit. Remember, to keep your crisis sewing kit ready at a moments notice to solve those crisis moments.

Lake George New York

Posted on January 21st, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by LJ James

As a Biker I love to take long Rides on my 2007 Harley Davidson, Nightrain. Some times a trip to Connecticut where one has the freedom of choice to decided if they want to wear a Helmet or not is a great place to go. Often I head up to the NY Catskill Mountains, Where a Burger and a Beer at Nicks Waterfall House in West Conesville can be the perfect end to a day of Cruising threw the Mountains.

Then there is another of my Favorite places to ride to, The Lake George NY area. My Uncle has a small Cabin in the Mountains right outside of the town of Lake George where I often stay. The area has some great long and winding roads for riding, These roads will relax even the most stressed Motorcycle rider.

There is so much history to the Lake George NY area. While on a trip one year riding around with no real destination in mind, I found myself in front of Fort Ticonderoga (fort-ticonderoga.org). Being very interested in American History I had to stop in and take the tour. The Fort was built between 1755 and 1759 and has plenty of stories to tell. It had a big roll in the American Revolution. As I walked around the Fort the I could almost imagine I had traveled back to the 18Th Century, The things I learned reminded me of the sacrifices our fore Fathers made to secure the Freedoms we enjoy and let slip threw our fingers every day.

Another thing I like to do is ride on some of the less traveled roads. Riding on a road where you see nothing but Forests and small Waterfalls for miles is very relaxing. I like to search out small little Dinners and eatery’s, Stopping at them and trying some of the foods they have to offer.

I recently met up with my Mother, Sister, Brother, Nieces, Nephew and other members of my family at the Lake George Escape Evergreen Resort Campgrounds (LakeGeorgeEscape.com), I found it a great places for me to relax for a few days. There where plenty of activities for the kids and many activities I could enjoy with the kids. In the resorts game room I won my Nieces and Nephew many prizes and I played (or maybe Battled is a more accurate word) Air Hockey with my younger Brother in the game room for hours. The resort has a pond and two pools to Swim in. Each week at the resort during the Summer has a thyme and while we where there it was Halloween week. The Camp Grounds has Nightly Hay rides around the Camp Grounds and since it was Halloween week my Brother came up with the idea of throwing out candy to all the kids as we took a Hay ride around the grounds one night. The Cherry on the top of this great resort has to be the on Grounds full service Tiki style Bar where most Nights they had a DJ to help keep the party going!

Many other things I have stopped to enjoy while riding around and staying in the Lake George area is White Water rafting, Hiking and many Trips to Six Flags Great Escape & Splash Water Kingdom. The park was known as Storytown USA when it first opened in 1954. As a Kid I used to love to watch the gun fights in its old western area known as Ghost town. The park may be much larger now and have many modern day Rides and attractions, but all the old Story town, Jungleland and Ghost town areas from the 50′s and 60s are still there! Then of course there is the town of Lake George it self with many great stores for shopping including a new shop I found last year called DILLIGAF’s. Many Arcades, Museum’s, Para Sailing, Night Clubs and Many Places to eat including some Waterfront Restaurants. Now in my opinion no trip to Lake George can be Complete without a Paddle wheel Cruise on the historic and scenic Lake George itself. The lake is known as the Queen of American Lakes. There are Two maybe three Companies you can use, But I recommend you take your trip on the Lake George Steamboat Company’s (lakegeorgesteamboat.com) Minnie-Ha-Ha. I have Pictures of me getting on this Boat with my Family that go back many years.

As Bikers We are always looking for Great places to ride to alone or with our friends and family that offer both great riding areas and many things to do. I have found Lake George to be a great area for both!

Maybe I will see you there! Your Bro L.J. James AmericanBikerX.com Listen to LJs Radio Show at BikerLowDown.com

Sew The Newest Fashions

Posted on January 20th, 2009 in Family | No Comments »

by Donna Trumble

Do you get excited when you see the newest fashions? Isnt it amazing how quickly fashion changes. The winds of change affect the styles and trends of clothing every season.

Even more incredible than seeing the newest styles, is making them. That is right. Those of us who sew have a unique opportunity to make our own exciting fashion statement. When we something we like, we can imitate it. When we get a flash of genius, all we have to do is enter our creative wonderland and sew together what we imagine. We can construct our own styles the way we want them. We can express ourselves in ways others can only wish.

One thing you can be sure of when it comes to fashion, is that it is changing. The less than flattering styles of the recent past will be replaced. The things you were thrilled about will also pass.

Check the magazines for the newest trends in clothing and accessories. What do you see that is new? Do you see hints of the past? Isnt it amazing how often the fashion designers borrow from past styles and trends to create fresh new twists. Frequently, the best of the past is revived in new ways. Isnt it neat that you can pick and choose from all the possibilities to create your own special fashion statement?

When you see the styles you really like, start thinking in terms of how you can make them your own. When you see fashion elements that you think would accent your own features, plant to take advantage of them.

You might think to yourself, I need a new pattern and it is so hard to fit a new pattern. Or you might imagine resurrecting some of those old patterns and using the parts that fit your new design. You might even consider investing in design software like Dressmaker or Berninas new My Design. You may take a class to learn how to create your own designs or fine tune fitting.

You might consider projects like: a slim skirt, great fitting slacks, fitted jacket, wide belt, shaped t-shirts, wrapped blouses and dresses, denim projects, and all kinds of embellished projects.

You may not be a famous French fashion designer, but you could create your own exciting fashion styles. Think of all the different things you could make. The possibilities are endless. You can start from scratch. You could imitate something you see. You could take a stock item and embellish it. The new fashion styles can be what you make them.

If it takes more than a few hours, some of us never get done. So, frequently, I will buy a cheap ready to wear garment and then do my thing. Since most ready to wear does not fit my body, I usually have to make some adjustments anyway. So, I do. With a touch of decorative threads, metallic embellishment, sparkles, changing a collar, or even embroidery, I take ordinary and turn it into extraordinary. As sewers, we can choose to design and sew from scratch or to transform a stock item. Either way, we are able to produce our own distinctive fashions.

Recycling is a popular theme today. By recycling what we find in our closet, we can create some amazing new styles. Take a visit to your closet. Look with a designers eye. What if you changed this on that? What if you added this to that? Just think a few minor alterations, enhancements, or embellishments could transform an old drab closet item into your latest style. Become the envy of your fashion world. Create. Remake.

What about color? The department stores cycle through different colors and styles based on what they think will sell. One year I wanted to buy a light green dress, but found the stores were in a blue cycle. There were no green dresses. But, I sew. So, I quickly put together my own fashion green. Now I didnt, but I could have even died my own fabric if I had wanted to. Color make a big difference. A touch here or there changes everything.

Sewing has so many great benefits. Sewing relaxes us. Sewing gives us deep inner peace. Sewing expresses our creativity. Sewing builds our self confidence. Sewing satisfies our inner passions. Fashion Sewing empowers us to create our own styles with the colors, textures, fit, design, comfort, and personal statement like nothing else.

When you see that skirt at Dillards for $220, ask yourself, Could I make that? And then give yourself the answer you know is true. Yes, you can. Not only can you sew it, you can do it a much less cost. You can probably even improve on it. Then imagine the thrill when you over year your friends say, She must have spent a fortune.

Sewing use to be hard work. The machines were made like boat anchors and often rusted like one. Today, sewing with the new modern convenience rich sewing machines is a breeze. Amazing convenience features have been designed to make sewing easy, fun, and satisfying. Creating your own wonderful fashion projects has never been easier. So, what are you going to create today?
